CLARIAN HEALTH PARTNERS
In 1997, the Indiana University-owned hospitals – IU Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children – consolidated with private, community-based Methodist Hospital of Indiana to form Clarian Health Partners. Licensed as a single hospital, Methodist, IU and Riley hospitals, now comprise one of the largest hospitals in the country. Co-managed by IUSM and community-based physicians, Clarian Health’s combined resources offer a broad range of subspecialty services for adults and children. Along with IUMG physicians, Clarian enjoys strong reputation for its cancer, transplant, neuroscience, pediatrics and digestive programs.
WISHARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Wishard Memorial Hospital’s primary mission is to provide high quality healthcare for the vulnerable populations of Marion County. Staffed by Indiana University School of Medicine physicians, Wishard values diversity in employees as well as the people served, with programs like the Wishard Hispanic Health Project. Collaboration with IUSM has led to national recognition for the IU National Center for Excellence in Women’s Health, IU/Wishard Level I Trauma Center and Regional Burn Center.
ROUDEBUSH VA MEDICAL CENTER
The Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located on the IU Medical Center campus, has an active affiliation with the Indiana University School of Medicine, which staffs the hospital and has a strong physician training program there. As Indiana’s VA referral center, Roudebush receives referrals from veterans’ facilities in Indiana and Illinois. It is especially noted for treatment and research in cardiovascular disease, renal disease and dialysis, hepatic disease, geriatrics and health services research.
IU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
The state’s only medical school, Indiana University School of Medicine graduates the second largest class of students in the country. About two-thirds of all Indiana physicians receive some part of their training at IUSM. With more than $207 million in research grants and contracts, the school is known for its innovative research. IUSM hosts federally-designated centers of excellence in women’s health, cancer, kidney disease, Alzheimer disease, alcohol research, gene vectors, arthritis and sexually transmitted disease. IUSM’s over 950 clinical faculty physicians in 61 specialties comprise the group practice, IU Medical Group.
BioCrossroads
The Indiana life sciences initiative, BioCrossroads, was formed to capitalize on Indiana’s strong health-industry and establish Indiana as a world-class hub for research, technology and industry related to the life sciences. A partnership of the City of Indianapolis, Indiana University, Purdue University, Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, the Indy Partnership and the Indiana Health Industry Forum, BioCrossroads has grown new companies and attracted biotechnology companies to Indiana.
